If your parents were U.S. citizens, either by birth or naturalization prior to your eighteenth birthday, you may have obtained citizenship through your them. This process is complex and dependent on your date of birth, the way in which your parents obtained citizenship, and their physical presence in the United States prior to your birth. Because the rules vary depending on your date of birth and are limited by law, it is strongly encouraged that you hire competent counsel to assist you in your citizenship application.
Naturalization
If you have been a Legal Permanent Resident for the statutorily required time, are a person of good moral character, and have met certain physical presence and residence requirements, you are eligible to apply to become a United States citizen. You may also be eligible to take a simplified version of the civics exam or take the exam in your native language depending on your length of residence and age.
